Summer 2012 will be Pilgrim’s inaugural season

The Pilgrim is the oldest existing Brixham built and rigged sailing trawler. After a project lasting seven years, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the South Devon Coastal Local Action Group and many individual donors this historic Brixham trawler has been restored to her former Victorian glory.

The work has been carried out to the highest possible standards by a large team of skilled craftsmen and a dedicated team of volunteers. Externally, within the demands of current legislation, she has been restored as closely as feasible to her original 1895 appearance with traditional rigging, oak blocks and red sails, a wide expanse of pine decking, teak companionways and oak top rails. Below decks she is warm and inviting with cream panelling and aged teak woodwork with brass detailing. A credit to the team who have driven this challenging project, she has been brought into the 21st century with an extensive inventory of navigation and safety equipment. She has a superb galley and every facility you would expect on a modern vessel of quality.

Pilgrim home in Brixham

Pilgrim is now berthed in the inner harbour at Brixham where she has been fitted with her Masts and Rigging.  The internal fitout is now underway and it is hoped that she will undertake sailing trials very soon.
