It is a great way to see familiar places from a completely new perspective and is so much more than a boat trip.

During the weekend you will also be able to get stuck in and experience at first hand the breathtaking beauty of traditional heritage vessel sailing.

All your freshly prepared meals, snacks and hot and cold drinks are included and as a special treat you will also be able to sample some of the best microbrewery beers from Devon and the surrounding area.

Our Skipper and Crew will be on-hand at all times to ensure that you have a great time!

What to Expect on your Devon Weekend Sailing Break:

Leaving from Brixham which is home port to Pilgrim BM45, you will find Pilgrim moored on the Town Pontoon close to where she was originally built by the Uphams Shipyard in 1895.

No two short break sails are exactly the same. However, this Devon Short Break is scheduled to take us around Berry Head to Kingswear and Dartmouth, with additional sailing on the River dart towards Dittisham and Totnes, visiting picturesque anchorage points and places of interest along the way.

The Annual Kingsbeer real ale and food is fast becoming one of the most popular beer and ale festivals in the country offering all the taste sensations your taste-buds can handle!

You will be welcomed aboard with refreshments before the usual safety briefings and boat tour to allow you to settle in and find your way around. Once everyone is ready we will set sail and the adventure begins!

Points of Interest during your Devon Weekend Break Sailing Experience:

As we leave Brixham,be sure to look back at the picture postcard fishing port with pretty colour-washed fishermens cottages rising up around the old harbour. You will also see other heritage vessels and classic sailing boats as well as fishing trawlers in and around the busy harbour.  Pilgrim sets sail around Berry Head. This dramatic limestone headland is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is home to a sea bird colony of guillemots, black

legged kittiwakes. Kestrels and gulls also make it their home.  We are often accompanied by dolphins or porpoises here, so make sure you are up on deck with your camera to get some great shots of the amazing sea life.

Sailing past Berry Head, look for the lighthouse built in 1906 which is also the site of a Napoleonic Fort built between 1794 and 1804.  These fortifications were designed to protect Torbay from the French in the days when Torbay was considered a strategic naval anchorage!

Enjoy the seascape and dramatic coastal scenery with interesting rock formations, coastal coves and inlets before we reach the ‘Day Mark’ built in 1864 on the eastern side of the estuary which helps us identity the River Dart. This is often another spot to see the occasional harbour porpoise, common grey seal as well as cormorants, guillemots, gannets and sea gulls.

We doubt there is a beer festival in the country with more beautiful views while you sample fantastic beers sourced from across the UK. There will be over 60 ales and ciders to choose from (plus wines and soft drinks) alongside live music and a fantastic BBQ too! For 2017 the festival organisers are further extending both the beer and food selections available to provide something to suit all tastes.

As we raise anchor to venture further up the River Dart before returning to Pilgrims home port of Brixham, you will experience the widest part of the River Dart, where at high tide the water stretches for over a mile to Galmpton on the far shore. Known as Dittisham Lake, this is the largest clear area for sailing on the river.

The River Dart is one of the most famous salmon rivers in the South West Peninsula of England. Only professional Fishermen, using nets may fish the tidal reaches of the river. Fish taken from the river find their way to the tables of the rich and famous all over the country. Omar Sharif is reputed to have said that smoked salmon from the River Dart was the best in the world!

Weather- Wind and Tides!
